Our Spiritual Birth Certificate

June 23, 2013 President Barak Obama’s American birth certificate has always been in question. Even the one finally produced is in question as to its authenticity. All of us that are born in the United States of America have no question as to our citizenship, because it is a matter of public record, either signed by the attending physician or state records of some kind. Besides our legal birth certificate, usually with fingerprints to prove it belongs to us, we have another “birth certificate” more authentic and lasting. It never gets lost nor destroyed. It is recorded in the Lamb’s Book of Life, with our name that is indelibly written by God Himself and He will not erase it (Rev.3:5). When we are “born again” (born of the Spirit), we are adopted into the family of God and the Father gives us a new name, and “it’s written down in glory.” When we are reborn spiritually we become citizens of hope - “You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy, at your right hand there are pleasures forevermore” (Ps.16:11). This hope never disappoints or shames us for believing in this hope of our citizenship (Rom.5:2-5). This hope is what anchors our minds, will and emotions in this turbulent world in which we live. Because we are not citizens of this world, but are just sojourners and strangers, we live in hope of that heavenly kingdom – our real home (I Pet.2:9-11a). Our spiritual birth certificate (the Word of God) spells out all of this – how to be born again and how to live and die in God’s kingdom. There is a blind civil rights lawyer from China who is seeking asylum in the United States for him and his family so they can be free. If he was permitted to come and desired U. S. citizenship and met all the requirements, the moment he was “naturalized” he would be free from all the laws and bonds of his former homeland and would have the benefits and protections provided to all natural-born citizens. The former laws that ruled him would no longer apply but he would be free to live and enjoy his new “homeland.” Such it is with those who have met the requirements of becoming a citizen of that spiritual kingdom – the Kingdom of God. They are free from the requirements and bonds of their former kingdom (the kingdom of darkness). In that former kingdom (Satan’s) we naturally sinned, we were born in sin and couldn’t help it. But, in our new kingdom we are free from the bondage of sin because we have been born again and have a new birth certificate. We even have a new name. Before our name was “sinner,” but now it is “the Righteousness of God in Christ Jesus” (II Cor. 5:21). When the Father looks at us He says, “There goes the ‘Righteousness of God in Christ Jesus’.” We have to become accustomed to our new name and that sin is no longer our master; and we must learn all about the benefits and responsibilities of our new Kingdom; and rejoice in our new birth certificate which reads: Name: The Righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. Time of birth: The moment I believed. Nearest of kin: The Almighty Father God and my elder brother, the Lord Jesus Christ. Telephone number: Jeremiah 33:3. Address: Kingdom of God. Future Address: Streets of Gold, Kingdom of Heaven.

A Poem For My Daddy

June 15, 2013 This blog is for all fathers – soon to be fathers; want to some day be fathers; children of fathers; grandfathers; fathers-in-law; and especially the M.I.A. fathers. All fathers are not “Daddies.” You can father a child but never be a “Dad” - there are too many of these in the world. Some fathers would like to be “Dads” but just don’t know how. Maybe their fathers didn’t know how either, so couldn’t set the example for their children. But it is never too late to learn. The first step is to become a child of God by choosing to believe in Him – the only true and faithful, Father God. Watch and follow the example set by Him – loving, compassionate, forgiving, gentle, kind, understanding, faithful, always there for you, never gives up on you, merciful, patient, doesn’t keep records of your wrong doings, and sees your failures and loves you anyway (with an unconditional love) - this is your heavenly Father! His example is perfect. You can never be perfect but you can learn to be perfect some day as you ask your “Abba Father” (Daddy) to show you how and enable you to be that wonderful Daddy, one day and one step at a time. Learn from God’s Word, which tells you all about how to be like God and a godly father, and all things about life and godliness (II Pet.1). If you are a child (whether male or female, little or big), we are to “honor” our earthly father – this is the fifth Commandment, (Ex.20:12), and it promises if we obey it our days will be long. To “honor” means to show respect by obeying and glorifying them –we are making them look good. Your father may be a M.I.A. father (one who is not there for you, either in person or in spirit), but instead of criticizing him to others, pray for him, love him and show him respect because God created him to be His representative here on earth. You may not respect the wrong things your father does, or has done, but you must still be courteous and respectful to him. By showing him love and honor, he will see your godly attitude and be convicted (convinced of his wrong doing). By criticizing your parent, mother or father, you cause your “neighbor to take up a reproach against” your parent, or the one you are criticizing” (Ps.15: 3). You can think of something/s positive about him, and you must think on those thing/s (Phil.4:8). Having the attitude of Jesus toward His Father (obedient & honoring), others will see the beauty of Jesus in you and will desire to be like Him. Ephesians 6:1 says, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is just and right.” Notice the phrase, “in the Lord.” As long as they are not asking something of you that is either illegal or immoral, we should obey them. Of course when you become grown and have to make decisions for yourself, you may like to ask for counsel of your earthly father but you should seek first the Heavenly Father’s counsel in His Word and in prayer. Hopefully the two counsels will be agreeable, but if the two counsels differ, then obey God’s counsel (Acts 5:29). Below is a poem written by a good friend. It has very wise counsel for every father whose children are watching their every word, act and deed. A POEM FOR MY DADDY Draw me a picture, Daddy, of the man you want me to be. You choose the colors Daddy, so that I can see - What a real man is, my Daddy, strong, yet kind and true, Able to say, when I am wrong, but able too - Not to be proud when I am right, not to be loud or brash, But to have an even temper, and try hard not to clash. Sketch me honest, Daddy, because as you already know - The world is not fair – but God is good, my Na-naugh’ tells me so. She says you love me, Daddy, - I believe it’s true. At this time I am only four, and Daddy, I love you too! She says it isn’t easy to always do what’s right. Daddy, paint me, as best you can, and I’ll try with all my might - To grow up to be a fine man, show me what that is. My Na-Naugh’ says you’re an artist and I don’t want to miss - What you want for me, my Daddy, because I’m sure it’s good. If you’ll teach me the right instructions - I’ll grow up as I should. I like Randy Travis, Daddy. Na-Naugh’ says that you sing too. She got me his disc of Jesus’ songs, because I told her he sounds like you! She wrote this for me, my Daddy, ‘cause I can’t write just now, But if you’ll paint a fine life for me, then I will know how - To grow up to be a fine man, to know how to take and to give. The Goal

May 23, 2013 "I press on toward the goal to win the supreme and heavenly prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward." (Phil.3:14) This is the time of year when young people are graduating from school; others are looking for a job; others desiring to move to a different location, or a different church. The whole world is changing and full of advice on how to set and reach our goals, but the best advice and counsel comes from God’s Word – the Manuel for Life! Goal setting is a vital part of successful living in the secular and spiritual world. So this writing is for everyone in every phase of life, in every status, class, race and age: the graduate, the beginner (freshman), the novice (inexperienced, the apprentice (the learner), the teacher (the educated), the parent, the leader (parent, judge, Governor, President), husband/wife, employer or employee, everyone who want to have a fulfilled and successful life. By my observations of over 76 years, some of the most unhappy, frustrated and stressed people are those who do not have a goal to achieve – whether a bad habit to overcome, a position to gain, a foe to conquer or a destination to reach. They are just letting life go by without ever winning “the prize” for achieving any goal for which they have dreamed and worked toward, and they will become a drab, colorless, unintentional, uninteresting and unsuccessful person. But the Christian's goal setting is different because it starts with a focus and attitude that are God-centered. However small or temporary, everyone needs a goal to set his eye on and focus his attentions and efforts on, whether worldly or spiritual. In this life “goal setting” is the key to success. Of course only a Christ centered Christian who daily dies to himself, and like Paul is focused and reaching upward toward “the Prize,” which is Christ Jesus, will ever reach his ultimate goal. We should have daily, weekly, monthly and yearly goals, and these are good, whether to get in shape physically; get up earlier; break bad habits and learn new good ones; etc. These are all good and we should set these kinds of goals to attain in this life. But how passing and unfulfilling these are compared to the spiritual goal – to know Him” - (become progressively more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly), and that I may in some way come to know the power out-flowing from His resurrection (which it exerts over believers), and that I may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed (in spirit into His likeness even) to His death, (in the hope) that if possible I may attain to the spiritual and moral resurrection that lifts me out from among the dead (even while in the body) (Phil.3:10-11 AMP). Then all the temporal (needed and good) goals things “will be added unto you” (Matt.6:33). The goal to get to “know” Christ more is continually lifting us above the temporal and “earthy” and brings us joy and fulfillment, even while in the middle of our chaotic lives. Bruce Wilkinson had this good thought, “Nothing pleases GOD MORE than when we ask for what He wants to give. When we spend time with Him and allow His priorities, passion, and purposes to motivate us, we will ask for things that are closest to His Heart.” Psalm 37:3-5 says basically the same thing (and more), “Trust in the Lord, lean on, rely and be confident in Him and do good, so shall you feed on His faithfulness. Delight (luxuriate, be soft and pliable to His will) in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord (roll each care of your load on Him; trust (lean on, rely on and be confident) also in Him and He will bring it to pass) (AMP). Read the rest of this chapter – it will encourage you in your goal setting. Charles Stanley has some thoughts that are timely, thought provoking and needful for those seeking to be successful. (Italics are his). Christian goal setting is different in that it starts with an attitude and focus that are God-centered. The attitude is: I want to be who God wants me to be. The focus is: I will look to the Lord for direction all areas of my life, and I will obey. Both aspects involve identifying the steps God wants us to take, but we often fail to follow His Path. What stops us? 1.& 2. Some people lack knowledge on how to identify the Lord’s plan, whereas others are mentally lazy. The solution to both is to give attention to the Word of God. This requires mental energy and commitment, but the reward is great. Consider Jesus’ life and words, His pattern for living. 3. Lack of faith can be another hindrance. We tend to think, “Why should I set goals when I’m convinced I can’t do what God is asking?” The answer is to build faith through systematic Bible study and apply scriptural principles by setting a series of smaller goals. 4. Fear of failure can also prevent us from establishing goals. We can overcome this obstacle by remembering that in Christ, there is no condemnation (Rom.8:1). Do you desire to move ahead in your Christian life, becoming more like Jesus and acting less like your old self? Goal setting with the right attitude and focus will help. Just as house keys are an important tool to opening the door to your house, so is goal setting a key that opens the door to Christlike living and affects us in a number of ways. Let’s look at some advantages of goal setting and ways that goal setting can affect positive changes in our lives. 1. Excitement is renewed – When we’re unclear about goals, enthusiasm wanes. Excitement comes as we aim for God’s “target” and see Him transforming us. 2. Direction replaces drifting – Without goals, we lose sight of where we’re headed and instead begin to drift. Complacency replaces passion, and we start allowing justification into our though process – such as, “This is just who I am.” Goals help us focus on who we are becoming. 3. Excellence replaces mediocrity – In the absence of goals, we start living in a humdrum “don’t bother me” manner. To work with focus counters this mindset. 4. Our attitude will improve – When we don’t like the choices we’re making our tendency can be to criticize others. But when we are following God’s plan we will feel better ourselves and relate more positively to those around us. 5. Life will be rewarding - If we live for ourselves, we’ll be disappointed. Setting godly goals helps us wisely use the time, energy, resources, and talents that the Lord has given us. Iife is a gift, and we are to be good stewards of it. That’s hard to do without having something for which to aim. It is easier to identify distractions and evaluate opportunities if you compare them with set goals. Choices then become clearer, which will help you reap the benefits of goal setting: enthusiasm, direction,excellence, healthy outlook and reward. Here are some questions that will help you reach your goal: 1)Do I have a clear picture of who God wants me to become? 2) Do I have a consuming desire to meet the goals the Lord has given me? 3) Is my confidence resting in my relationship with Jesus and His promises? (See Phil.4:13.) 4) Do I know my course of action that points me in the direction God wants me to go? 5) Have I established deadlines for meeting the goals? If you cannot answer most of these questions positively, don’t be discouraged. Instead, recognize the opportunity before you: the Lord already knew what you would answer – and He is waiting to help.

Letter To A Hurting Friend

May 8, 2013 "God's divine power has given us everything needed for life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him Who called us by His own glory and goodness." II Peter 1:3 Dear Friend, It grieves me so to hear of your divorce (now final). We know that Satan, that old deceiver and accuser, is alive and well (for now). But, thank God that He has made you an over-comer through Christ Who lives in you, strengthens you, and provides for you (spirit, soul and body) - and He is Faithful - He will never leave you nor forsake you - He is your All in all! I read a marvelous scripture this morning that just jumped off the page at me. I have read it dozens of times before, but it was my encouraging and faith-building promise for today, and I thought it would be encouraging to you also. It is II Peter 1:2-3 - the third verse says, "God's divine power has given us everything needed for life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him Who called us by His own glory and goodness." "Experts" (?) talk about the power of the mind, the power of exercise, the power yoga, the power of education, etc. But nothing compares with God's divine power - nothing can stand against it nor overcome it when we we have the knowledge of Him and trust in His promises. When we are trusting in God's divine power, He gives us everything needed for life - (tribulations, divorce, wants, cares, etc. - all of that is part of life). God's divine power gives us everything needed to walk a godly life - power to be more godlike in every respect, when we infuse ourselves with the knowledge of this unspeakable God we serve and Who lives in us. He gives us these glorious things because He has called us by (and to) His own glory, excellence and virtue (to be like Him). That is what godliness means, "Godlikeness." I love the words, which speak my heart's yearning, to that old song by Thomas O. Chisholm: O To Be Like Thee O to be like Thee! Blessed Redeemer , this is my constant longing and prayer. Gladly I'll forfeit all of earth's treasures, Jesus, Thy perfect likeness to wear. O to be like Thee! Full of compassion, loving, forgiving, tender and kind; Helping the helpless, cheering the fainting, seeking the wand'ring sinner to find. O to be like Thee! While I am pleading, pour out Thy Spirit, fill with Thy love. Make me a temple meet for Thy dwelling; fit me for life and heaven above. Chorus: O to be like Thee! O to be like Thee, Blessed Redeemer, pure as Thou art! Come in Thy sweetness, come in Thy fullness - Stamp Thine own image deep on my heart. Dear friend, I pray the sweet Holy Spirit will fill you, cover you, guide you and teach you in the way that you should go. Always look up, not out. Reach out to others who are hurting and it will help heal your hurt. Remember, "In this world you will have tribulation, but be of good courage for Jesus has overcome the world!" I pray the Lord will bless you and keep you and make His face to shine on you and give you His peace!

Letter To A Loved One Facing Death

April 6, 2013 The letter below is written to one we love who is facing death and we are not sure of his salvation; and all those who have once known God and have walked away from Him; and to those who desire to “know” God and have a relationship with Him through Jesus Christ. Sometimes we have to be facing death before we stop in “the far country” and come to ourselves and acknowledge we need a Savior. Jesus is the only answer; the only hope; the only Savior. As the lady says on the diet advertisement, “We just can’t do it on our own.” Jesus did it all on the cross – our debt to Him is paid – just accept! Read and meditate on all the scriptures I have noted, claiming every promise, then prayer those promises back to the Father. God sent His Word to heal (spirit, body and soul – mind, will & emotions) (Ps.107:20). His Word is Truth and it will set you free. We were so sad to hear that you have been diagnosed with throat cancer. The name “cancer” brings fear to everyone’s heart, but we know a name that is above every name and at that name every knee must bow, on earth, in heaven above and underneath the earth – that name is “Jesus” (Phil.2:9). I have been interested in the names of God for sometime, and by studying and learning their meanings it has strengthened my faith so much and has brought me so much joy and peace knowing that He is all-powerful, all knowing, always present, all merciful and forever loving. By getting to know His names my faith has been strengthened and my love for Him has grown. By proving His love I have learned that He is forever faithful to keep His word. In good times and bad times I have found that if I wait on Him and trust in His character I find He will do everything right in my life. His ways are not our ways nor His thoughts the way we think, but if we will “wait” on Him (Isa.40:31), He will make all things beautiful in His time (Eccl.3:11). As someone has said, “Let the main thing be the main thing.” I have found in my 76 years (70 of those years I have walked with Jesus as my best friend), that the main thing is: whether it is good things happening, or bad things happening, to have Jesus ruling my heart (my plans, my hopes & dreams, my decisions, etc. – all of my life), then I can be at peace and thank Him because He will make all things work out for my good (whether it is how, where or when I wanted it done) (Rom.8:28). God is a good God and He loves us with an everlasting love that will not change. We cannot sin enough to make Him love us any less, nor can we do enough good things to make Him love us any more. “God is love,” He cannot help but love us. Love is His essence, His very DNA. He may not love the sinful things we do but sin cannot separate us from His love. Sin may separate us from His fellowship, but never from His love. Remember the story of the Prodigal Son? (Read Luke 15:11-32) This is a perfect picture story depicting the love of God for His children. Read how the younger son rebelled against his father, asking for his part of the inheritance. He ran away into a “far” country, wasted his fortune in reckless and loose living. And when he had spent all his fortune he fell upon hard times and was in want. He forced himself upon one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed hogs. He became so hungry that he filled his belly with the husks the hogs were eating. Then he came to himself and said to himself, “How many hired servants of my father have enough food, and even food to spare, but I am (dying) here of hunger! I will get up and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight. I am not worthy to be called your son: just make me like one of your hired servants.” So he got up and went home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was moved with pity and tenderness for him (his Father had been waiting and watching for him; and he ran and embraced him and kissed him (fervently). The son tried to give his prepared speech of remorse and repentance, but the father said to his bond servant, ‘Bring quickly the best robe (the festive robe of honor, Zech.3:4) and put it on him, my son; and give him a ring on his hand (showing family relationship), and sandals on his feet (showing he is a son, not a servant or a beggar).’ And then they had a grand party – because the son who was lost was found, and he who was considered dead is now alive.” This is my story and your story, all mankind’s story. God created each of us to have fellowship with us, but Satan tempted, man fell from God’s fellowship, then all mankind was born with a fallen, sinful nature which only through the “work” (the life, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ became the perfect sacrifice for our sins that bridged that impassable chasm that separates us (the sinful) from God the Father (the pure and perfect), and restores us back into fellowship with the Father. Although Satan may have taken us down many a crooked road and into deep pits and now facing a dark valley, it takes only one step toward “home” and the Father, and He will run to meet you, embrace and kiss you, give you back that clean “robe of righteousness,” (you soiled the original one by living in the mud in the “pig pen.”) He will place the family crested ring on your finger which says, “Child of the King,” and wash and clean your feet from the dirt and mire of the world and put clean shoes on your feet so you can walk in the “paths of righteousness for His name’s sake” (Ps.23:3). Satan may whisper in your ear that you are not worthy to be called, “a child of God,” (none of us are worthy), but by virtue in our faith in the blood of Jesus to cleanse us from all sin, we are restored to that relationship – (we never ceased being the Father’s child, that is an eternal relationship), we just broke that fellowship by “going into the far country.” I John 5:11-13 assures us that we can know God has given us eternal life because that life is in His Son (I Jn.5:11-13 (Amp.). He who has the Son has life; He who has not the Son has not life. We “have” the Son by simply trusting in Him to be the “only way to the Father,” the only Truth, and the only way to Life – because He is the Life – Life eternal. We don’t know the end result of your diagnosis, but we do know that “nothing is too hard for God (Gen.18:4). Our days are numbered so if He has given you more days you will be healed to praise God. He created you and loves you with an everlasting love (Ps.100:5). His love is full of grace and mercy. Grace is God’s gift of favor to us that we do not deserve. His mercy is God’s restrained justice that we do deserve. He will never leave you nor forsake you – never (Heb.13:5c)! Please know that you will be in our thoughts and prayers and any time you would like to call we would be most happy to talk with you. Feel free to e-mail if that would be easier. Are You Dressed?

April 12, 2013 “For we are not contending only with physical opponents, but against the master spirits who are the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the supernatural sphere. Therefore, put on God’s complete armor, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day of danger, and having done all the crisis demands, to stand, firmly planted in your place.” (Ephesians 6: 12-13 Amp.) We who are patriotic Americans, and especially those of you who are in the military, are very aware that we are at war, not with any particular country but with those who are following the ideologies of those in the world who want to destroy us. These enemies want to change our very souls (minds, wills, and emotions) to following their damnable ideologies. They try to take control so very subtly and sometimes even violently. Their ideologies are filled with darkness, deceit and eventual destruction. We think we are impervious to their tactics, but if we are not aware of their battle strategy and forever vigilant we can be duped and become their pawns to carry out their diabolical plans. Because of this “new kind of enemy” our military is being trained not only physically but psychologically how to fight this ideological adversary. We who are true Christians are fighting a war against an enemy who wants to steal from us, kill us, and destroy us. So we recognize the importance, urgency and necessity to be educated who our enemy is, his strategies and his goals. Our enemy is Satan, the devil. He is a deceiver and the father of lies. His strategies are subtle and he works in darkness and deceit. He tries to “divide and conquer,” knowing that “a house divided against itself cannot stand.” His goals are to “steal, kill and destroy us.” He comes clothed in “light, goodness and beauty,” when all the time he is the god of darkness, evil and destruction. The only way Christians can fight him is by educating ourselves to our enemy and his battle plan, and by learning, memorizing and appropriating our “war manual” – the Bible – God’s Word, our Sword of the Spirit. God’s Word is the only offensive weapon in our armor. We resist the enemy with the Word of God, just as Jesus did in His temptations. Ephesians six has a vital exposé on the Christian’s spiritual “armor” by which we can “stand” against this enemy of our soul, and be victorious. All of the pieces of armor are vitally important to be able to stand against this enemy, but in verse fourteen we are admonished to hold our ground, having tightened the Belt of Truth around our loins. Without the Belt of Truth we couldn’t use or fight with all the other pieces of armor. Truth binds everything else together and makes it effective. Truth is a most wonderful thing. It is the cornerstone of all our Christian faith, because Jesus is Truth. Truth means “honesty, trustworthy, exact and genuine.” We choose each day to walk in honesty, with ourself and others, no matter the cost. Abraham Lincoln had many nick-names but the most famous is, “Honest Abe.” What a wonderful character quality! Because of this character quality, Abraham Lincoln was known to be trustworthy, genuine, exact and factual in all he said. Each of these synonyms of Truth is what he became known for. He girded himself with Truth every day, as we should. Truth is one of the names of Jesus. He said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.” He spoke truly and lived truly. Truth was part of His essence, His DNA. Though all might deny Him, He could not deny Himself. We must wear Jesus as our belt that holds together all the rest of our armor; otherwise we are not dressed for battle and will lose the battle. Our head is a vital part of our body, without it we are dead. Our head houses our thinking (our intellect), choices (our will) and our feelings (emotions). It houses the central nervous system which controls and keeps alive all other parts of the body. Therefore, it must be protected above all other parts. Ephesians 6:17 tells us to protect and “save” the soul (mind, will & emotions), we must put on the “Helmet of Salvation.” We must choose the “Helmet of Salvation” in order that our spirits and souls will live eternally. If we do not have the Helmet of Salvation when we die, the body dies but the soul and spirit will live forever, but without God or hope – eternally lost. We stand having shod our feet in preparation to face the enemy with the firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness produced by the good news of the Gospel of peace (v.15 Amp.). We must live in peace, speak peace and rest in the peace that only comes from the Prince of Peace (Isa.9:6). What good news that all who receive the Prince of Peace can also have this peace. Then we must lift up over all the covering Shield of Saving Faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked one (all those temptations, doubts and fears) (v.16). Without faith it is impossible to please God (Heb.11:6). Now faith is the assurance, the confirmation, the title deed of the things we hope for, being the proof of things we do not see and the conviction of their reality. Faith perceives as real fact what is not revealed to the senses (Heb.11: 1 Amp.). The Shield of Faith will cause us to overcome the evil one when he comes in like a flood. Standing in God’s armor we then are to pray at all times, on every occasion, in every season in the Spirit of God, with all manner of prayer and entreaty. To that end keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding in behalf of all the other consecrated people of God (v.18). Remember, we are an “army marching forth to war with the cross of Jesus going on before.” We are not alone in this battle but as a Christian soldier we must not only put on the complete armor of God, but we must pray for our fellow soldiers – there is overcoming strength in the power of prayer. Brothers, we are treading where the saints have trod. We are not divided, all one body we – one in hope and doctrine, one in charity. Letter to Potential Employees

Hi, All You Potential Employees, April 11, 2013 Everyone at some time in their life either is looking for a job (or will be soon), working at a job, or knows someone who is. The job market is “tight” and employers are looking for the best candidate for the job they want done, that one could be you! So pray, pray, pray. Being in God’s will for a job is the first step to success! First impressions are very important when looking for a job. Your appearance is of prime importance! Your hair and nails should be clean and well kept. You should dress appropriately for the job you are seeking, don’t overdress or under-dress. Make sure your clothing is clean and ironed and colored coordinated. Don’t be super-faddish in your dress (some fads are completely inappropriate in the workplace). Keep your language and attitude polite and pleasant. Be confident in your answers but not “cocky.” When shaking hands, be firm in your grasp, not with a limp grasp. Exhibit a “willing to learn” attitude. Guys, don’t go with baggy pants, or leave your shirt unbuttoned half-way down, but wear clothes that fit. If you wear a tee shirt, make sure it isn’t covered with vulgar, offensive or controversial language or pictures. Be clean shaven and with a fresh hair cut. Gals, dress appealingly but not seductive. Whatever the style or fad is, don’t ever wear clothes that are too tight. Whether you are too thin or too overweight, wear clothes that fit your build. Too tight clothes detracts from your overall appearance, and gives the impression that you have poor taste, or are wanting to draw attention to yourself; and they are just “tacky” and are not attractive for anyone. Too tight clothes for very thin girls just accentuates your thinness, just as tight clothes accentuate the overweight of the heavy girls. Don’t show everyone your negative body features when it is so much more attractive to hide those features with correct fitting clothes, but accentuate your positive features like: attractive well kept hair styles, moderate make-up (not clownish), and well kept fingernails (without wild colored polish). If you have a nice complexion you may need very little make-up. Accentuate your eyes with natural looking eye make-up. Wildly colored hair, extreme make-up and clothes speak so loudly that it is hard to hear what you say. Fads are “fun” sometimes, but not when you are wanting to give a good impression to a potential employer (and to everyone). Legitimate work is honorable no matter what it may be. Nothing is "below" us if it is legal and moral. There are some very important things to know about working for others. In real-estate, when you want to buy a house, they say the most important thing is, "location, location, location." In being an employee the most important thing is, "attitude, attitude, attitude." You may be the most intelligent, the most educated, the best experienced, the best trained and the best looking, but if you have a bad attitude toward others, yourself, the job, etc., you probably won't get the job or keep it long if you get it. A “know it all,” prideful attitude is a big "red light" to an employer who is looking for someone who will be a team player with a teachable spirit. When applying for a job, apply only at appropriate businesses and for people who are reputable, and apply for the kind of work you are capable of performing, and/or are willing to be trained, if necessary. Always go dressed appropriately – no weird outfits, hairstyles, make-up or jewelry (most work places have a dress code). Always be respectful and show a confident and/or willing to learn attitude. This kind of attitude and appearance will make that potential employer feel that you will be an asset to his business. And lastly, be on time for your interview. As a Christian, we are told in God's Word what our attitude should be in an employee/employer relationship (Eph.6:5-8). Whatever we do, we should do all to the glory of God. All these principles apply as well to students in school, those still living at home under parental authority, or whatever situation we may be in. Work (serving others) can become a joy when: 1. We do it as if Jesus was the beneficiary of the work (He is). He gets the glory and praise for a work done well; or poor work or attitude in and at your work brings a reproach on, not only you, but on Him. 2. We should strive to please those in authority over us, not just ourselves. Our boss may want the job done a certain way, so, unless it is dishonest, illegal or immoral, we should try our best to please, with a good attitude. We may think we have a better way but until the time we can privately, with a good spirit, share that better way we should do our job exactly as instructed. If you get an opportune time to share your "better way" do it with kindness and a humble spirit. A genuine suggestion will seldom be ignored. The boss may not agree with you but he can see you are innovative and truly interested in doing a good job and wanting his business to succeed. I am a small-time employer. I use some of our young friends to help me with my yard work. Because of much experience working with plants, I like things done a certain way. They try very hard to go by my instructions, and they do everything with a good attitude. I appreciate their efforts and attitude very much and would recommend them to anyone for any job, and someday there will be an opportunity for them for a better paying job. 3. We should do our best at any task, however small or what we think is insignificant. Do our best whether the boss is watching or not, and do it with a good attitude. This is part of integrity. Being a person of integrity starts with our thought-life. There is an old saying that states: “Sow a thought, reap an act; Sow an act, reap a habit; Sow a habit; reap a character; Sow a character, reap a life.” They say that, “personality is what people think we are, but character is what we really are when no-one is watching.” Satan may put all kinds of negative thoughts into our mind but we don’t have to leave them there (II Cor.10:3-5). Intentionally “guard your mind (heart), for out of it comes the issues of life,”- your attitude and your integrity. 4. We should try to bring order and beauty into our world, this includes our job. God is a god of order and beauty. Having everything in order in our lives cuts down immensely on stress and problems. Start when very young to keep everything in order for which we are made responsible – our room, cleaning the table after meals, helping clean the house or yard, etc. It will become a habit that will affect everything else in our lives for the rest of our lives, and will become a part of our character. This even carries over into our spiritual life. Get in the habit of prayer (praise, thanksgiving, confession of sins and supplication for our needs and the needs of others); of Bible reading & study and appropriating what we learn, and choosing to do what we know is right. If our spiritual lives are out of order there is usually not much order in our natural lives. Order brings beauty and beauty brings us, and others, pleasure, not stress and problems. As we are intentional in our jobs to bring order and beauty, as much as possible, it brings pleasure and joy to others. The boss will notice, and may even learn from you. Remember, we leave a record behind, forever! 5. We need to learn what the boss expects and then do that, and more. Think and plan ahead about how to do a great job. Go to work a few minutes early to prepare for your job that day. Stay a little late to finish and clean up after your work. Don’t waste (or steal) the company’s time or resources. Go the extra mile to be a person of excellence in your work. Work as if the boss is standing and watching you, the real “Boss” is watching. 6. Have a teachable spirit, respectfully show your knowledge of the subject at hand, and if you think of a better way, politely suggest an idea that would make the situation even better. No one, especially a boss, likes a “know-it-all,” so remember, “attitude.” Be willing to learn and grow. Be faithful in a little job and you will be given a bigger job (Matt.25:21). Be the solution to a problem, don’t become a problem. 7. Respect those in authority over you and those you work with. Don’t criticize or undercut your boss or your fellow worker. Don’t talk or act in a condescending way to anyone, whatever role you or they may have. In Romans 13:1, 3 and I Pet 2:13, God tells us to submissive to all those in authority over us. Pray for those with whom we work and those who are in authority over us (I Tim.2:8). When it all comes down to it, we should desire and work at growing into the perfect image of Jesus (Rom.8:29). 8. We should try our best to provide for ourselves and others to whom we are responsible. Pray for God to lead us to the job He wants us to have, and when: 1) a door of opportunity is opened, 2) and after seeking wise and godly counsel regarding that open door, and 3) we have peace about that particular job, then take it. Remember, your enemy, Satan (the angel of light), will open doors which may seem good but we must follow the above three test to be sure it is God’s will for us. Be faithful in it and God will bless you with more and better. God has the right job for you at this time. He is just waiting to get you ready to receive it. Keep asking, seeking and knocking (Matt.7:7), also remember Eccl.3:11. My prayer for you is for God’s best for you in all aspects of your life. Remember to go with God and He will go with you.
